Vetiver Essential Oil- Fragrance of the Soil!
Vetiver’s deep roots make this earthy, grass plant highly beneficial for preventing erosion and regenerating damaged topsoil, and it is used worldwide in efforts to prevent famine. It grows easily, with a sweet, earthy, sensual aroma that is highly relaxing, and is often used in massage oils and as a base note in perfumes. Vetiver grass has been used in ayurvedic medicine in India for thousands of years, and was grown extensively in Haiti, then brought to Louisiana in the late 1700’s. It was an ingredient in a fine New Orleans perfume called Kus Kus, guaranteed to attract men with its aroma, but it wasn’t until almost 1900 that scientists began to study its usefulness as an essential oil!.
Vetiver is a delightful, relaxing earthy essential oil. Here are just a few ways you can benefit from using it:
1.Grounding and Cooling:Vetiver essential oil has soothing sedative properties that ground the mind/emotions/body when you experience stress, night anxiety, depression, muscle aches and joint pains, digestive issues like upset stomach and gas. It “cools” inflammation, brings the central nervous system into balance and creates calm. At the same time, Vetiver stimulates blood circulation to the organs, and rejuvenates energy, leaving you fresh, relaxed and energized to get going again!
2.Sensual Attraction and Romance:Vetiver both relaxes and stimulates to revitalize nerves and blood circulation, inviting attraction and feelings of romance and sensuality! It is often used in perfumes, and you can add a small amount to coconut oil or any carrier oil, along with floral or spicy oils like patchouli, sandalwood or ylang-ylang, but look out! A little bit goes a long way!
3. Muscles and Joints:Add a few drops of Vetiver to your favorite massage oil, and take inflammation and pain out of muscles and joints fast! Vetiver relieves arthritis, muscle aches from overuse, sprain injuries and stiffness, while stimulating circulation to detox and restore muscle tissues. Its grounding and rejuvenating nature balances the central nervous system, while its relaxing properties relieve depression, anxiety and insomnia.
Tip:Keep Vetiver oil in your nightstand drawer for fast relief from insomnia, stress or body tension, like restless leg syndrome. Just inhale the aroma right from the bottle, or rub a drop between your palms then inhale, and you’ll be off to dreamland in no time!
