Lime is a well-known citrus fruit that produces a sweet, fresh essential oil. In aromatherapy, lime is known to boost emotions and is a great choice for assisting the immune system to fight off pathogens. Lime essential oil is also a great oil to use in household cleaners.

Latin Binomial:  Citrus aurantifolia

Extraction Method:  Cold pressed or steam

Countries of Origin:  Mexico, India, Persia, Palestine, Egypt, Europe, Peru, United States, South Africa

Scent Profile:  Fresh, citrusy, sweet, slightly tart

Parts used in distillation:  Citrus rind

Oil Characteristics:  Light green with hints of yellow or orange, thin, top note, medium intensity

Applications

Used in aromatherapy for the symptomatic relief of:
Throat infections, influenza, digestive problems, lymphatic stimulant, fluid retention, cellulite, refreshing, uplifting, fatigue, tired mind, apathy, anxiety, depression, astringent, counteracts over production of sebum and acne.

History

Limes were introduced to Europe by theMoors and brought to the Americas by the Spanish and Portuguese explorers inthe 16th century. Extensively used in flavoringfood and beverages and also used in men’s toiletries and perfumery

This choice was based on an Instagram post about blending black pepper, lime, sweet orange, and francensence for tired achy muscles. I love the posts with suggested blends. I would have never chosen black pepper but combined with lime it’s all very invigorating!
