Rose - the Flower of Love

Rose (rosa damascene) essential oil dates back to ancient time in Roman, Greek and Egyptian civilizations, and was used in religious ceremonies and celebrations, entombed with mummies, and prized for their sweet perfumed scent and medicinal benefits. It was said that the god Bacchus fell in love with a nymph, and chased her through a garden, where she tore her gown on a thorny bush. In his appreciation for the view of her leg, he covered the bush with the red flowers that we know as the Flower of Love today! Roses traveled to Europe on trading vessels from the Mediterranean, and were soon grown in gardens and used for medicinal purposes and perfumes, rosewater, and essential oil. The roses are gathered by women early in the morning, to capture the petals at their highest potency, and are steam distilled to release the oils. It takes over 4000 kg. of petals to yield 1 kg. of absolute, so you can see why Rose oil is so precious!

Blending: Rose makes an aromatic and powerful blend with: Bergamot, Chamomile, Clary Sage, Geranium, Jasmine, Neroli, Vetiver and Ylang Ylang.
