Homemade Playdough Recipe for the Wild Child

by Leah Morgan, CCAP

As we move through summer vacation (or staycation for many of us), it can get tricky to keep the kids occupied. While TV show marathons and videogames are a convenient attention grabber for most kids, nothing much offers the same satisfaction of making your own toys, and getting to play with them after! Here is an extremely simple recipe for a nontoxic homemade playdough that is fun to make. We all know the infinite possibilities of playdough...have at it!

Add these ingredients to 2 cups of boiling water:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 tsp cream of tartar
  • 3 tsp oil of choice (try something light like almond or grapeseed)

Knead the dough, split up into several sections and add your food colouring to each section. To store, keep the dough in an air-tight container.

Since it does not contain any preservatives, this playdough may not last more than a week. But to be fair, by then your kids might have moved on to other adventures!
