Earthy Essential Oils are Grounding

by Leah Morgan, Clinical Aromatherapist

The Earthy essential oil family can be described in words like herbal, grassy, garden fresh, and musky. They are present in the aromas of the air around you while mowing grass or digging in the garden.

It’s no coincidence, then, that the earthy essential oils are all known for their calming and “grounding” properties! The high terpenes content in earthy oils is the cause of their sedative nature that soothes anxiety, depression, tension headaches and migraines, and eases tired and overworked muscles and joints.

And, it’s their similar circulatory system stimulating properties that improve function of the digestive, lymph and respiratory systems. The combination of relaxing and stimulating properties creates a perfect cycle of relieving inflammation and stimulating healthy cells and organ functions to create total wellness in the body.

A similar cycle works for the emotions and mind, relaxing thoughts of anger, depression, negativity, and replacing them with tranquility, peace and positive energy, and willingness to move forward in life.

Here’s a little bit about each of the 4 Healingscents earthy essential oils:

Learn about the uses and benefits of Angelica Root essential oil

Angelica Root: Known for its powerful ability to balance the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems, Angelica Root essential oil is perfect for treating migraines, headaches, colds and flu.

It’s a natural diuretic that detoxifies the lymphatic system and liver, relieves gout and arthritis, and clears and soothes skin conditions like acne, eczema, dermatitis and aging.

Learn about the uses and benefits of Carrot Seed essential oil

Carrot Seed: Has profound results in skin care and especially in restoring skin to youthful radiance. It stimulates red blood cells to stimulate circulation to the deep layers of the skin, improving natural hydration and elasticity, and removing fine lines, wrinkles and age spots, fading scars and treating blemishes or rosacea from changing hormones.

It’s also great for maintaining healthy eyes and vision. Carrot Seed oil is a natural UV Ray protectant, giving you a golden tan too!

Patchouli essential oil

Patchouli: Native to tropical Asia, this relative of the mint family has a soothing scent that relaxes the mind, protects the body, and is a favorite of people around the world. Patchouli is one of the few essential oils that actually gets better with age.

It’s no wonder that it is prized for anti-aging and ability to repair skin tissue! It’s also an effective insect repellent and treatment for insect bites and infections. Patchouli is relaxing and often used in massage oils and steam mist diffusers to create a sense of tranquility to the mind/emotions/body.

That relaxed state, combined with its sense of awareness and focus, stimulation of blood circulation, and sensual aroma, make Patchouli an exotic aphrodisiac too!

Vetiver essential oil

Vetiver: This grass root oil is good for the environment, used in healing damaged topsoil and preventing erosion and famine worldwide! It shares its aphrodisiac properties with Patchouli, and is one of the other few oils that improves with age.

Vetiver is known as a grounding and cooling oil that calms frayed nerves, tension, anxiety, stress, depression and anger emotionally, while its anti-inflammatory properties sooth the organs, including the skin, muscles and joints.

It is useful topically in massage and inhaled as aromatherapy and, used before bedtime, is an effective treatment for insomnia!

Tip: Earthy oils are all beneficial to skin care. Add a few drops to your facial serum, nighttime cream, or facial wash for smooth, youthful skin!

Blends with: Earthy essential oils blend well with Citrus oils, like Lemon, Neroli, Tangerine and Bergamot, and Floral oils like Lavender, Jasmine, Rose Maroc, and Ylang-ylang.
